Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission

About Us

 

The Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission was established pursuant to Act 368 of the Public Acts of 1978, and the 2003 Joint Agreement between the Counties of Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Lenawee and Newaygo. NOTE: Calhoun County ceased participation on 10/1/07. Following are the functions of the Commission:

  • Develop comprehensive plans for substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation services and prevention services consistent with guidelines established by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH).

  • Review and comment on applications for licenses submitted by local treatment, rehabilitation and prevention organizations.

  • Provide technical assistance for local substance abuse service organizations.

  • Collect and transfer data and financial information for local organizations to MDCH.

  • Submit an annual budget request to the MDCH for the use of State administered funds for its city, county, or region for substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation services in accordance with guidelines established by the MDCH.

  • Make contracts necessary and incidental to the performance of the agency's functions.

  • Annually evaluate and assess substance abuse services in the region.

Mid-South Mission Statement

The Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission's purpose is to develop and administer a comprehensive plan to obtain and provide resources that prevent and reduce the misuse and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.

It is our goal to assure the availability of comprehensive, quality services in the areas of prevention, intervention, assessment and treatment in the Mid-South service area.

Mid-South Internal Vision Statement

Mid-South Substance Abuse Commission stands for the prevention and reduction of substance abuse in our communities. We are united through this common concern as we direct our efforts toward the future.

We are an informed advocate against substance abuse. We are efficient in the use of financial resources and effective in the coordination of services. The communities we represent are well-served through our responsible, clear-minded and visionary deliberation process.

We seek to acquire and distribute sufficient funding to serve the client population. We serve individuals with chemical dependencies with respect and dignity, and encourage healthy behaviors, personal growth, and self-empowerment. We assure that complete, supportive service is rendered with care, compassion and understanding.

We engage in clear, fluid and timely communication in order to be knowledgeable about issues and to integrate all our working parts into the process.
